Canoeing

West Nipissing provides wonderful opportunities for the canoeist. Local history has much to do with this ancient form of travel. Étienne Brűlé that intrepid 16-year-old explorer who scouted Canadian territory for his master, Samuel de Champlain, arrived by canoe in Sturgeon Falls in the early 1620's. Lake Nipissing served as the watershed for the Voyageurs. Since then, the love affair with the canoe has only expanded.

West Nipissing offers a large region to explore, and some waterways will yield up wonderful surprises. Many a small tributary that starts inconspicuously will open up into a beautiful, hidden lake.
